Traditional Music for Special Occasions.

Music, they say, is the soundtrack of our civilisation so if you are planning a celebration or event, for whatever the occasion, you’ll more than likely be needing some and live traditional music makes the perfect accompaniment. It can be lively, exciting and upbeat or romantic, thought provoking and emotive but whatever it is, it's never stuffy.

Who are we?

Bowland Strings are professional musicians and provide a high standard of musical entertainment. We are available as either a solo fiddle or fiddle & guitar and can add something special to your celebrations or event whatever and wherever they are.
Julian Taylor is the fiddle player and is often accompanied by Richard Moss on acoustic guitar. Our background is in the years of experience we have in playing around the Northwest for traditional social dancing with the Union Street Country Dance & Ceilidh Band and we are now also available to play our infectious music at a much wider range of events including, hopefully, yours.

What we do

We play music to accompany your celebrations. Our music works inside and outside, played acoustically or through our PA. It ranges from the toe-tapping sound of jigs, reels and hornpipes to beautiful classic folk melodies, popular lyrical airs, romantic waltzes and contemporary tunes too. Our repertoire comes from the traditional music of Lancashire and the Northwest of England although we also include many tunes from further afield. Traditional music has a timeless appeal and haunting fiddle solos, for example, can create an evocative atmosphere at any special event. There will be many tunes amongst our repertoire that your guests will recognise and enjoy.

What kind of celebrations do we play for?

All events where you need live music.
Including: Anniversaries, Baptisms, Birthdays, Blessings, Christenings, Civil Ceremonies, Coming out parties, Community events, Corporate events, Engagements, Family gatherings, Hand fastings, Leaving dos, Promotions, Receptions, Renewal of vows, Retirements, Surprise parties, All parties, Reunions, Weddings & Wakes. I'm sure there are several more I've missed out too.

Corporate and community events.

We would also make a great addition to your business event or product launch, press conference, drinks reception, award ceremony or dinner. And we can be a great back drop for a community project.

Which area do we cover?

We are based in Blackburn and travel mainly throughout Lancashire and the Northwest of England although we have played much further afield.

Weddings & Civil Ceremonies

As perhaps you might expect, we do play for lots of weddings and civil ceremonies. Here are some examples of when our music would be appropriate:
• As your guests arrive for the service.
• A solo fiddler to escort the wedding procession to the church.
• The entrance of the Bride.
• During the signing of the register.
• As the newlyweds and guests depart.
• As ‘wandering minstrels’ during a drinks reception or
• Providing background music during the wedding breakfast.
